A southern Indiana small business owner is asking for help now that his livelihood may be in jeopardy.”I love it, it brings me happiness,” said Richard Garcia. He started “Garcia’s Landscaping” in Corydon just five months ago.”I wanted to start off doing yard business so I can get to the point where I can pay for my own license and start my own tree business,” Garcia told WLKY.He saved up for more than a year for his truck and equipment. That hard work is now stolen from him.”It’s a hard feeling; anger, rage,” Garcia told WLKY.Tuesday morning, his mother Tina said she heard a noise on Southwood Drive and then went outside and saw his truck missing. Thinking her son left for work, she walked back in and saw he was asleep.”I go, ‘oh my God, where is your truck’ and he’s like, ‘what are you talking about, what are you talking about,’ she said.”I was like, ‘Mom stop joking’ and you’re lying but it wasn’t a lie when I came out here and just realized it was gone,” he said.Garcia says all in all more than $20,000 worth of equipment was stolen from him. For a new business owner building his clientele during a pandemic, this theft could end his dreams. But he says a knife passed down from his grandfather who died of COVID-19 is more precious to him.”That kills me right there because it’s sentimental and If I can just get that back then I would be happy,” Garcia said. He’s making it by right now due to his friends letting him use their equipment. He’s unsure how long it will last unless he gets back what was taken from him.”It’s heartbreaking because he has a baby and a family. It’s like how is he supposed to make money and do his job the next day when someone takes everything from him,” Tina Garcia said.As the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate, the family is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that can lead to the return of the truck, trailer, and the items inside of it.Click this link to help.
